In his 12 November 2019 lecture at the British and Irish Legal Information Institute, Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence and the Law, Supreme Court Justice Lord Sales called for an expert commission to address the “grave threats” posed by algorithms and artificial intelligence. In his lecture, Lord Sales referred to the work of Littleton’s Jamie Susskind, whose book Future Politics: Living Together in a World Transformed by Tech (Oxford University Press, 2018) received the Estoril Global Issues Distinguished Book Prize for 2018. Jamie’s scholarship focuses on the political and legal consequences of new technologies, and has been described by the Guardian as “a formidable achievement”.
