Katherine Apps Instructed in First Judicial Review on LASPO

Katherine Apps was instructed with Martin Chamberlain QC (of Brick Court) to represent the Director of Legal Aid Casework in the first judicial review challenge to the interpretation of LASPO: R(Rrapaj and 6 others) v Director of Legal Aid Casework [2013] EWHC 1837 (Admin)

This case concerned:

• the interpretation of Paragraph 19 of Part 1 of Schedule 1 to LASPO, the provisions which, since 1 April 2013 deal with when immigration judicial review proceedings are in and out of scope for civil legal aid; and
• the procedure to be followed by solicitors when applying for emergency legal aid.

The joined cases were heard by Ouseley J in an expedited rolled up hearing, on 15 May 2013. Judgment was handed down on 2 July 2013. A full copy of the judgment can be downloaded here.
