David Lascelles acted for well-known property entrepreneur, Nick Candy, in successfully applying to strike out a claim for £1.5billion brought by Mr Michael Brown.
David was instructed by Daniel Astaire of Grosvenor Law.
Mr Brown claimed he had agreed to sell Mr Candy’s penthouse apartment at One Hyde Park. Mr Candy denied the alleged deal and the claims for £1.5billion purportedly made on the back of it. Mr Candy was able to point to contemporaneous documentation directly inconsistent with Mr Brown’s claims.
Following a hearing yesterday, the High Court delivered judgment dismissing all Mr Brown’s claims and finding them to be “totally without merit”.
David also secured indemnity costs for Mr Candy as well as an order that he be paid 100% of his costs of the proceedings within 14 days.
Mr Candy’s consistent position as to the lack of any merit in the claims was therefore entirely vindicated.
The case has given rise to significant press interest including reports in The Times, Daily Mail and The Sun as well as international and trade press.
