The London riots of 2011 saw widespread vandalism and looting. One particular victim of the riots was a well-known jeweller and pawnbroker in Tottenham, set on fire and burnt to the ground. They suffered the theft of four whole safes and the destruction of two more, said to contain almost a million pounds worth of gold, diamonds and jewellery. As reported in the Evening Standard on Tuesday, the demolition company contracted by the local authority to demolish the block of shops is Defendant to a High Court claim for theft.
