Alexander Halban in Commercial Court as Russian duo begin court battle over share in fertiliser giant

The Times has reported the start of the trial in Gorbachev v Guriev, a Commercial Court battle between two Russians over the ownership of a quarter interest, worth over $1 billion, in PhosAgro, one of the world’s largest fertiliser companies listed on the Moscow and London Stock Exchanges.

The case is proceeding in the Commercial Court in London and for part of the trial the Judge (HHJ Pelling KC) and legal teams will travel to Dubai to hear evidence from the Defendant, who is sanctioned and barred from entering the UK.

The case was featured as one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2024 .
