The Professional Football Compensation Committee has recently awarded Hartlepool United a six-figure compensation award in relation to the signing by Fulham of young centre-back Luca Murphy, ending a hotly contested dispute that began in 2019.
Sam Neaman and Grahame Anderson acted for Hartlepool before the Committee, instructed by Muckle LLP in Newcastle.
The award is of significance for sports lawyers and those in the football market not only for the size of the award, but because Sam and Grahame successfully defeated Fulham’s argument that Hartlepool was not entitled to any compensation because at the time of the transfer it had fallen out of the EFL into the National League.
The case has been widely reported: BBC; Daily Mirror; Northern Echo. You can read Hartlepool’s statement on the matter here.
