Civil Fraud

Members of Littleton’s Civil Fraud Group appear in some of the most significant, complex and high-value litigation in this area, in cases in the Commercial Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court (e.g. the Dadourian, Ablyazov, Khrapunov, Kolomoisky and Yurov litigation).  Members are frequently instructed in cases ranging from hundreds of millions to several billion US$ in value, against the highest ranked practitioners at the Bar. Littleton barristers have been recognised by both leading legal directories as leading practitioners in this area. Several Littleton barristers speak a variety of foreign languages, including two fluent Russian speakers.

Littleton barristers have extensive expertise in cases with an international context, whether that be because of the involvement of foreign parties, or cross border and conflicts of law issues.  Members have particular expertise in litigation arising out of the CIS countries, the Middle East, and cases being litigated in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), and other offshore jurisdictions.  Littleton barristers excel in cases that require applications for urgent injunctive relief, and cases involving serious wrongdoing, where dishonesty lies at the heart of the case.

The Civil Fraud Group’s work includes the following:

  • multi-party, cross-jurisdictional cases, involving complex fraud conducted on an international scale
  • claims based on deceit, dishonest assistance, knowing receipt, unlawful means conspiracy, and the other economic torts
  • claims arising out of breaches of duty by dishonest directors and other individuals controlling corporate structures
  • claims governed by foreign law and involving foreign law expert evidence
  • claims involving complex international trust structures
  • cases involving Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
  • work across the full range of business sectors, particularly the financial sector
  • anti-suit injunctions
  • worldwide freezing orders and search orders
  • Norwich Pharmacal applications
  • applications challenging jurisdiction and service
  • applications for forensic inspection of electronic devices
  • offshore litigation in the BVI and elsewhere
