In Mooij v Persons Unknown [2024] EWHC 814 (Comm); [2024] WLR (D) 170, the High Court granted summary judgment and continued freezing injunctions against “persons unknown” defendants in a bitcoin fraud claim worth c.£1.1Mn. Declining to follow Boonyaem v Persons Unknown and others [2023] EWHC 3180 (Comm), it found that, as jurisdiction had already been established by alternative service, effected by NFT Airdrop, directed by the court, the court thereby had jurisdiction to grant a final non-proprietary money judgment. In addition, Andrew also secured an indemnity costs award for all of his overseas client’s costs.
