Dr Johanne Cox is an international arbitrator and Associate Tenant at Littleton Chambers.
Johanne is a dual-qualified barrister and solicitor-advocate with over 20 years’ practising experience. She has led arbitration practices at top-tier law firms in London and Cairo and has unique experience of the Middle East and Africa, having spent a decade working in the region (2010–2020) in Egypt, the UAE and Qatar.
Johanne arbitrates commercial, corporate, finance, technology, energy, transport, infrastructure, construction and investment disputes. She has been appointed as sole arbitrator, chair/presiding arbitrator and co-arbitrator in arbitrations seated in London, Dubai, the DIFC, Qatar and Singapore under the LCIA, ICC, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA, SCC and SIAC Rules, with Magic Circle firms, US law firms and prominent regional firms acting as counsel.
In addition to commercial arbitration, Johanne accepts appointments in investment treaty disputes. She has leading expertise in investment arbitration and has acted as counsel for both foreign investors and states in ICSID proceedings. Her book, Expropriation in Investment Treaty Arbitration (Oxford University Press, 2019), is a global publication.
Johanne also accepts appointments as a mediator in commercial and investment disputes. She is an Accredited Mediator, a Civil Mediation Council (CMC) Registered Mediator (civil/commercial disputes), a member of the Society of Mediators, and a professional member of the MENA Mediation Hub.
