David Reade KC has recently been successful in defending the Lansdowne Club against a claim brought by business woman Gina Mok, who claimed that she had been unlawfully expelled from the private member’s club. In awarding indemnity costs against the Claimant in The High Court, Mr Justice Ritchie found that she had broken the law in attending the club in breach of Covid restrictions and that she had done so intentionally with full knowledge that she should be in quarantine and that she had deliberately advanced a false account of events to the club and to the court. Having made findings about the Claimant’s conduct, indemnity costs were awarded in favour of the Club.
