John Mehrzad Successful Twice at Court of Arbitration for Sport

John Mehrzad has recently been successful in two football disputes before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the so-called “supreme court” of world sport:

  • He represented a football player agent in a dispute over transfer commission payable by a leading Italian club in an appeal from the FIFA Player Status Committee.  This case considered the meaning of the FIFA Agents Regulations, the test for establishing a right to payment following a player transfer and the legality of a percentage sell-on clause.
  • He also represented a player in a jurisdiction dispute about CAS’ right to determine a breach of contract claim against a Middle Eastern club.  This case considered the approach to contractual interpretation of an exclusive jurisdiction clause within a player contract taking into account Swiss Law.

Full details of the above cases will follow upon publication of the full judgments by CAS.
