We are very pleased to announce that Martyn Barklem has been appointed a Circuit Judge on the South Eastern Circuit and will be sworn-in by the Lord Chief Justice on 22nd October 2012 This marks the second judicial appointment of a Littleton member following Philip Bartle QC’s similar appointment as a Circuit Judge earlier this summer.
Martyn has been a member of chambers since 1990 and has played a leading role in Littleton’s growth in recent times. The appointment reflects Martyn’s wide legal skills, his judgment and understanding.
Martyn’s expertise and acumen have helped so many clients and colleagues over the years and will be very difficult to replace. We will particularly miss Martyn’s sense of humour and fun. So, whilst we are sad to be losing one of our most popular and experienced members, we have no doubt that Martyn will thrive in his new role to which he will bring great wisdom and insight.
Joint Head of Chambers, Andrew Clarke QC, said today:
“I am sure that all of you will agree with me that Martyn will make a splendid judge. By that I mean someone before whom all of us would be happy to appear and in whom all of us would place our trust, knowing that we would receive a fair hearing and a just result.
Littleton has lost a valued and respected colleague, but the bench has made a great gain at our expense.”
